The World Health Organization chief said it is a travesty that in some countries health workers and those at-risk groups remain completely unvaccinated from COVID-19, stressing that the global health agency’s effort to achieve vaccine equity will not stop.

“Scaling up production and equitable distribution remains the major barrier to ending the acute stage of the COVID-19 pandemic,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a news conference on Tuesday.

“It’s a travesty that in some countries health workers and those at-risk groups remain completely unvaccinated.”

The WHO will continue to call on governments to share vaccine doses and fill the 22.1 billion US dollar gap in the ACT Accelerator for the equitable distribution of vaccines, rapid tests and therapeutics.

He said his agency will also look to find new ways to work with manufacturers to boost overall vaccine production. (Source: CNA)
