Anti-government protest continued in Bangkok on Sunday as thousands of Thais filled Ratchaprasong intersection, calling for Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to step down.
Student-led protesters once again transformed Bangkok’s top shopping area into a rally site as they demanded an end to the military’s longstanding domination of Thai politics.
Jatupat Boonpattararaksa of the Dao Din group said the Ratchaprasong rally was to send a clear signal that Gen. Prayut’s time as leader of Thailand was over.
The rally started slowly, but gathered pace as a second stage was set up.
The rally came after the prime minister refused to heed the protesters’ Saturday deadline to resign from his position.
The Thai Parliament will hold a special session on Monday and Tuesday to find a way out of the political conflict.
Mr. Jatupat said he had little hope that the crisis could be resolved in Parliament, and protesters would continue their peaceful demonstrations. (Source: Bangkok Post)
