Over 1,000 Filipino workers to be repatriated from crisis-stricken Lebanon

A free mass repatriation offer to leave Lebanon in February next year, has attracted more than 1,000 Filipino overseas workers. OFWs, mostly women with some children in tow, have flocked to the Philippine Embassy in Beirut to register following the embassy announcement on December 03.

The free repatriation project is the Philippine Government’s response to the numerous request received by the Embassy from Filipino workers who have long overstayed or have recently lost jobs and income opportunities during these trying times in Lebanon. The country is currently suffering from economic and financial woes.

In order to avail of this one-time opportunity, all OFW applicants were required to visit the the embassy in person to fill out forms and submit documents as requirement.

The Philippine government will provide free air tickets and settle the penalties of those who will be issued clearance by the Lebanese immigration authorities.

No processing fees will be collected from the applicants, all forms are free and the deadline for application is on the December 15. (Source: Philippine Embassy-Lebanon)
