Following a call from Nigerian protest leaders for the resumption of the #EndSARS demonstrations, a large number of police officers have been deployed across the capital Lagos to discourage people from gathering.
The police action seems to work as correspondents said people appear to have been scared off and very few have taken to the streets, unlike the large protests that were held in October.
Those demonstrations ended abruptly when the army was deployed in Lagos. Rights groups and eyewitnesses said at least 10 people were shot dead by soldiers – something the military has denied.
Authorities then cracked down on some of the protest organisers as some were arrested while others had their bank accounts frozen. (Source: BBC)
