Junior officers are to blame for reported incidents of police brutality, Kenya’s police spokesperson said in an interview.
“Some of these police officers are very young, they can easily get drunk with the little power they have and do very wrong things,” Charles Owino told a local TV station.
Owino added that action would be taken against those found to have broken the law.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) said in a statement that 15 people have been killed and 31 injured since Kenya heightened security measures to curb the spread of coronavirus on March 25.
IPOA said it had received 87 complaints from the public, including assaults resulting in serious injuries, robbery, inhuman treatment and sexual assault.
Kenya has reported just over 2,000 coronavirus cases and 71 deaths from the virus. (Source: BBC)
